Understanding PLR Articles
PLR or Private Label Rights, are rights assigned to a set of articles where you have the legal right to modify the content of the articles. If you wish you can resell the articles, use them “as is” on your website, or do just about anything you’d like with them.
A PLR article is made available to multiple people to use on their websites and most PLR articles are sold to dozens or even hundreds of people.
Due to the large distribution, PLR articles are therefore not unique.
If you wish to use them purely for adding interesting content to your website for your readers, then using them unaltered is fine. If on the other hand, you intend using them for marketing purposes albeit website content to attract new visitors or article marketing to promote a product or service, you will have to deal with the “duplicate content” issues in search engines and article directories etc.
Although you are not actually penalized by the search engines for duplicate content, you will not gain as much traffic as you would have, had you written the article yourself because in it’s original form the article will appear on many other websites besides your website.
Article directories however, do simply reject any articles that appear to be duplicated.
Another use of PLR articles that many Internet marketers utilize is to compile a number of topical articles into an ebook and sell the ebook as a report or something similar. Duplicate content is not an issue in these circumstances as the content of any ebook is not crawled by the search engine spiders.
If you plan on using a PLR article and want unique content, you are advised to rewrite at least 60% of the article and change its content significantly.
At the very least, you should always when using a PLR article, run it through a spell and grammar check. Bad spelling and grammar can very quickly impede your credibility as an authority on the subject being written about.
